On bank holiday Sunday I decided to go out for the day and hang the expense. Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre & Country Park is only 5 miles away from my house and I noticed on their website that this weekend was a medieval camp with Les Routiers de Rouen. I wont go into detail as to who they are because their webpage says it all! Click the link if you really want to know. In case you are wondering what the battlefield is all about, it is where King Richard III fought his last battle against the usurper Henry Tudor, 2nd Earl of Richmond on 22nd August 1485. There’s enough links in the last paragraph to fill you in about Bosworth Field, so I’ve put up a few photos I took for you to browse through. There is also two videos at the end of this post of the present King Richard III (?). If you want to see the photos in more detail just ‘clic the pics’.

Testing. If this arrives it will be a first! My old Grandma warned me about all those naughty spammers so I set the comments up so that I could moderate first time commenters. After you have been approved the subsequent rude remarks from you will show up immediately, OK? [joke] – Keith.

Wow…that looked like a fun time! I enjoyed the little video clips! And why didn’t he offer you a grape? Kings don’t offer peasants food! His henchmen (tax collectors) took those grapes from me in the first place in the name of the King as rent for my cottage. – Keith.

The Master at Arms demonstrating the weapons in the fifth picture down bears an uncanny resemblance to the King in the videos. Methinks there is deception afoot. By all the Saints, ’tis treason thou speakest Mistress Ascham! Those words could land thee in the stocks, and then be flogged before a ride on the ducking stool. Get thee back to the kitchens, wench! – Keith.

I trust you were suitably dressed Keith. It’s just as well you didn’t see me, I was wearing jeans, a T-Shirt with “Romani eunt domus” on the front, trainers and a body-warmer I told you I was just visiting and was behind the camera. I’m not part of the re-enactment group now; too old and decrepit!- Keith.

Those medieval people certainly were clean and comfortable, weren’t they? Speaking modern English, too, I’ll wager. Pat, I was thinking the same thing. Where is the photo of Keith in appropriate attire? Wish I could see the videos. I’ll try again from home. I was wearing modern clothes. The only period costume I have now is Roman, a tribune in the 9th Legion. You know, the Legion that was posted to Hadrians Wall and went missing when the going got tough. I don’t think I could have got away with wearing that in medieval times! The medieval costumes were good, but I didn’t get too close because they appeared to have adopted the medieval tradition of never having a bath or wash! – Keith. Post a comment
