Today is Fathers day. I know it is an American invention, possibly with the sole purpose of making money by pushing special gifts and cards. The good thing is that it is the day when we can celebrate our fathers and the contributions they have made in our lives. This is a great day for family and a time to celebrate the lives of their fathers.
My thoughts go out today to those who will have no one to call, like myself. As much as this is a day of celebration, today is also a day that can bring about hurt and pain for those whom there is no one to call, or if there is and they don’t bother.
Today is not a fun day for those with no one to celebrate or to call and it’s one of those days like Christmas and New Year where you simply push forward and try to make the best of it on your own. I will try to think of others for who this day is quite special. However, as is often the case, my thoughts will somehow turn to the loneliness that comes with this day.
I do not want to be a father where my daughter only sees a photo of me and thinks of me as nothing more than just someone she feels that she should visit, because society demands it.
I did not want to be the father who was never involved in the life of my daughter. I wanted to be a father that my daughter could depend on and I would always be there for her. I want her to know that I am with her and want nothing more than the best for her.
Although she only lives 28 miles away (40 mins by car) she possibly doesn't have time to visit today. I haven't been invited to her home for a meal or just to share some time with her. I realise that A*****, my son-in-law, has a father and would probably like to spend today with his parents.
If today is a day that brings more hurt than joy for you also, I hope you don’t get too depressed.
Me? I’m off to the “Merrie Monk” for a drink (or two) at lunchtime, then home for a nap.Labels: General |

Welcome back Keith. Hope the nap is relaxing, and the phone rings soon.

Being a typical Guyanese I'd say call her, Keith. But being a polite blogger, I won't say anything of the sort.
My father died 9 years ago.
I spent the day planning English lessons for today.

Someone should give your daughter a good talking to!

Pat - Wouldn't do any good. I am past my usefulness now. I'm just a burden on society.
The elderly are exhausted resources. Not people anymore. Just resources that have been expended and should be left to die in dirty hospital wards.
Jeez. Sorry but I'm in a bad mood today.
Have a nice day!
